Textiles 101 Pop Up: Spinning
Stop by the museum anytime between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. for a hands-on introduction to the twists and turns of making yarn and thread. Under the guidance of Sylvia DeMar and spinning collective Fluff N’ Nonsense, try your hand at spinning various natural fibers (wool, silk, cotton, etc.) using hand spindles and spinning wheels.
About Sylvia DeMar
Sylvia DeMar has been teaching fiber arts and spinning for over 35 years. She is an expert in multiple spinning techniques using a large variety of natural and synthetic fibers. Her knowledge also extends to fiber processing, historic textile production and natural dyes. She develops and leads hands-on textile presentations and workshops throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and currently teaches workshops at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia.
