Textiles 101 Pop Up: Indigo Dye
Used around the world for centuries, indigo dye is famous for its variety of vibrant blue hues. Stop by the museum anytime between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. to learn the magic of indigo dye with teaching artist Sylvia DeMar. Try your hand at shibori tie-dye techniques and watch as the dye transitions from green to blue when exposed to air.
About Sylvia DeMar
Sylvia DeMar has been teaching fiber arts and spinning for over 35 years. She is an expert in multiple spinning techniques using a large variety of natural and synthetic fibers. Her knowledge also extends to fiber processing, historic textile production and natural dyes. She develops and leads hands-on textile presentations and workshops throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and currently teaches workshops at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia.
