Join Holly Robertson, curator of exhibitions for the University of Virginia Library, for an introduction to the Albert H. Small Declaration of Independence Collection. Before Mr. Small donated his Washingtoniana artworks and artifacts to GW in 2011, the real estate developer and philanthropist gifted a comprehensive collection of materials documenting the preparation, production and printing of the Declaration to UVA. As the nation celebrates its 250th birthday, learn how both of Mr. Small’s collections spotlight significant moments in U.S. history on two college campuses.

About Holly Robertson

Holly Robertson is the curator of exhibitions for the University of Virginia Library. Exhibition spaces in the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library include three rotational galleries and the ongoing Declaring Independence exhibition featuring Mr. Small’s phenomenal and comprehensive Declaration collection, which foregrounds stories of the individuals behind this seminal moment in American history. Holly produces exhibitions — from concept development through all stages of design and production — that convey the UVA Library's mission and values in concert with the university's strategic directions and major events.

About the Exhibition

In Revolutionary Echoes in Washington, a selection of rare letters, maps and illustrations reveal how the ideas of the Declaration of Independence resonated in America’s young capital city during its first century. Visitors to this exhibition can share personal visions for the future by contributing to the nationwide Wish Wall project celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States.
