Inspired by the museum’s exhibition Generations D.C., this walking tour encourages guests to see Washington’s sites in new ways. Local artist Carlos Carmonamedina will offer insights on capturing D.C.’s unique landscape and guide you as you sketch your own artworks. Carolyn Crouch of Washington Walks will share the history of iconic and lesser-known stops in Foggy Bottom.

About the Exhibition

Scenes from American history have unfolded at key locations around Washington, D.C., from the White House to the U.S. Capitol Building. In honor of the 250th birthday of the United States, Generations D.C. brings new perspectives to some of the capital city’s most familiar sites, presenting historical images alongside the stories of  laborers, activists and artists across generations. About Carlos Carmonamedina

Since 2016, artist Carlos Carmonamedina has created regular illustrations of D.C., documenting the rich diversity and everyday life of its neighborhoods. Through intensive onsite research, conversations with locals and archival work in D.C.’s libraries, he uncovers the historical and cultural layers that make each area unique. His compelling art captures these human stories, inspiring others to explore beyond the typical tourist attractions

About Carolyn Crouch

Carolyn Crouch founded Washington Walks in 1999 after a visit to London, England. Inspired by London Walks, she decided to tell the story of her home city through walking tours. Washington Walks specializes in deeply researched and contextualized tours that showcase D.C. neighborhoods and off-the-beaten path places. Crouch is a past member of the DC History Center board of trustees.
