Textiles 101 Pop Up: Fabric Scrap Coasters

Stop by the museum anytime between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. for a hands-on program inspired by the exhibition Source Material: Lessons in Responsible Fashion. Led by Chesapeake Fibershed, this mini workshop focuses on reusing fabric scraps to make vibrant braided coasters and durable potholders with easy, beginner-friendly techniques. Come craft, connect and explore how simple leftovers can become something useful and beautiful. All materials provided.
Our Textiles 101 pop-ups continue Saturday afternoons through February 7. Come back each week to learn a different skill or activity, each designed to extend the life of your garments and inspire more mindful fashion choices all year long.
About the Exhibition
The impacts of overproduction and overconsumption in the global fashion industry are uniquely modern challenges, but promising solutions can be found in textile traditions from the past. Source Material: Lessons in Responsible Fashion pairs historical garments from The Textile Museum Collection with works by contemporary fashion designers returning to more responsible uses of materials and resources. About Chesapeake Fibershed
Chesapeake Fibershed works to create a regional network among fiber producers, mills, dyers, artisans and enthusiasts. They develop regional and regenerative fiber systems on behalf of independent working producers by expanding opportunities to implement carbon farming, forming catalytic foundations to rebuild regional manufacturing, and connecting end-users to farms and ranches through public education. Chesapeake Fibershed envisions the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enlivens connection and ownership of “soil-to-soil” textile processes.
