Member Program: Enduring Traditions Focus Tour: Textiles of the Islamic World

Chief Curator/Avenir Foundation Curator Sumru Belger Krody will guide members on an in-depth tour of textiles from the Islamic world featured in Enduring Traditions: Celebrating the World of Textiles. This tour will explore highlights ranging from dazzling ikat and “suzani” textiles from Central Asia to masterful Turkish carpets. 

About the Exhibition

Around the globe, textiles have long played a role in celebrations, performances and religious observances. On the occasion of The Textile Museum’s centennial, Enduring Traditions: Celebrating the World of Textiles explores the cultural significance of treasures from the collection. From royal robes to ceremonial carpets, these exceptional textiles reveal the traditions and values of communities across continents. Learn more about the exhibition

About Sumru Belger Krody

Sumru Belger Krody joined the curatorial staff of The Textile Museum in 1994. She serves as chief curator, as well as editor of The Textile Museum Journal. Specializing in textiles from the late antique era and Islamic world, Krody has curated numerous exhibitions and authored exhibition catalogs, articles and book chapters.  She holds degrees in classical archaeology from Istanbul University and the University of Pennsylvania.
