About the Display

From Lily Spandorf’s 20th-century watercolor depicting churches along 16th Street NW to an early design for the Library of Congress, this unique selection of works from our collection offers a closer look at the people, places and ideas that helped shape the nation’s capital.

The works on display were researched by GW undergraduate and graduate students in the course Curating Early D.C. Taught by Curator Kasey Sease, the course deepened students’ understanding of Washington’s history while preparing them to share museum collections with public audiences.

Organized by the Albert H. Small Center for National Capital Area Studies with support from the Albert and Shirley Small Family Foundation.
