Join curator Mary Savig for an exclusive tour of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s exhibition featuring 20th-century women artists who mastered and subverted the everyday materials of cotton, felt and wool to create deeply personal artworks.
About the Exhibition
Cotton, wool, polyester, silk — fiber is felt in nearly every aspect of our lives. The artists in Subversive, Skilled, Sublime: Fiber Art by Women mastered and subverted the everyday material throughout the 20th century. About Mary Savig
Mary Savig is the Lloyd Herman Curator of Craft for the Smithsonian American Art Museum, where she organizes collection display and ehxhibitions about craft and maker culture. Dr. Savig holds degrees in art history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the George Washington University, and a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research interests include American studio craft, contemporary craft, American art and material culture.
