D.C. Mondays: Preserving History in the D.C. Archives

Join State Archivist and Public Records Administrator Lopez Matthews, Jr., as he discusses the D.C. Archives’ efforts to preserve District government records. He will also share available documents and an update on the new D.C. Archives building being constructed on the University of the District of Columbia’s campus.
About Lopez D. Matthews, Jr.
Lopez D. Matthews, Jr., Ph.D., is the state archivist and public records administrator for the District of Columbia. He also serves as historian of the District of Columbia, chair of the D.C. Historical Records Advisory Board, and director of the D.C. Office of Public Records and Archives. Dr. Matthews has published several articles and authored Howard University in the World Wars: Men and Women Serving the Nation (History Press, 2018). He hosts “In Retrospect and Prospect,” where he interviews practitioners about African American history projects for ASALH TV.
