Inspired by the upcoming exhibition From the Grounds Up: Building GW, this talk by Assistant Curator Amber “Jackie” Streker and Steve Wyman will explore the history of the university's built environment and share insights into the historical buildings on campus, including the museum’s own Woodhull House.

About the Exhibition

Though now a fixture of the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, the George Washington University inhabited two earlier sites in Washington, D.C., before making its permanent home a few blocks from the White House. In honor of the university's bicentennial, this exhibition presents historical images that explore the evolution of GW's campuses.

About Amber “Jackie” Streker

Jackie Streker began working with the museum’s Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection in 2017 and assumed the position of assistant curator in 2018. Streker curates exhibitions on American history with a focus on Washington, D.C. She also organizes GW’s annual Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Symposium. Streker holds a bachelor’s from the University of Maine, and a master’s in art history from GW.

About Stephen Wyman

Stephen Wyman graduated from GW with a bachelor’s in international affairs and studied defense analysis in graduate school. He has held positions as a staff writer for The Washington Post and with Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers, where his role includes conceptualizing furniture designs and curating shows. Wyman is also an amateur historian who focuses on GW’s history and impact on the nation’s capital.
