DC Mondays: Historic Anacostia Boat Clubs

Washington's four Anacostia boat clubs share a love for the Anacostia River. They also share a history of forced moves, damaging weather events, exclusionary policies and a strong sense of camaraderie and environmental responsibility. Join architectural historian Anne Brockett as she explores these stories, revealing the city’s sometimes fraught relationship with D.C.’s “other river” and the resilience of Anacostia boaters to uplift the community through recreation and education.

About Anne Brockett

Anne Brockett has worked as an architectural historian with the D.C. Historic Preservation Office for over 20 years. She assists homeowners and government agencies with preservation design decisions, documents historic resources and reviews projects for historic rehabilitation tax credits. She holds a B.A. in art history and archaeology from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in historic preservation from the University of Oregon. She also researches and writes on various local history topics, including Little Taverns and fast-food culture, cemeteries and obscure or odd sites in and around D.C.
