Avenir Foundation Conservation and Collections Resource Center

Collections storage room

This environmentally controlled facility is designed for the long-term protection, study, and care of the museum's collections. Located on GW's Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn, Va., the shared resource of more than 22,000 square feet provides storage, conservation, and behind-the-scenes support for the public exhibitions and programs at the museum in Foggy Bottom. In 2016, the center was named in honor of the Avenir Foundation, recognizing a generous grant to support collections care efforts.

Researcher Access to the Collections

While the primary use of the Avenir Center is collections storage and care, this private facility is open to visiting scholars and students by appointment. Download guidelines and forms (PDF) for research access and teaching access to the collections.

Please note that staffing constraints prevent providing public tours of the collections center. Docent-led tours of the exhibitions at the museum in Foggy Bottom are offered on weekends and by appointment.
