Queer Threads: Fresh Voices

Artwork by Zoe Schlacter

Meet the artists from Queer Threads: Curious Spaces, a multi-site exhibition series  organized by Transformer in Washington, D.C. Artists Zoe Schlacter and André Terrel Jackson will discuss thread-based studio practices and queerness with curator John Chaich.

This program is a collaboration with Transformer. Curator John Chaich also explores the past, present, and future of Queer Threads in his virtual lecture on October 6.

About the Exhibition

The resurgence of fiber crafts both within and outside of the art world has coincided with a breakdown of gender and sexual binaries in culture at large. The evolving exhibition and book Queer Threads is committed to exploring contemporary fiber and textile practices by LGBTQ+ artists. The New York Times dubbed Queer Threads “judiciously racy," saying that it "takes you places you never thought you and your thimble would go.” Since its 2014 debut at the Leslie-Lohman Museum, the international and intergenerational group exhibition has traveled to Maryland Institute for Contemporary Art in Baltimore and the Boston Center for the Arts. The Washington, D.C. presentation of Queer Threads: Curious Spaces is hosted by Transformer.
