Lecture/Show and Tell: From Qing to Xi Jinping: Two Centuries of Chinese Rug Design

Colin England, collector

Collector Colin England gives a quick overview of 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century rugs produced in China using designs from Chinese, Persian, Turkish, and other sources. He starts with classical Chinese designs of the 19th century, travels through the Nichols and Art Deco export designs of the 1900s through 1930s, explores mid-century designs and the explosion of Chinese and Western painterly styles, and concludes with replicas of Persian and Turkish designs and the fusion of Chinese and Western designs in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
