Workshop: Archiving Digital Photography

Historical Society of Washington, D.C.

Using examples from the extensive analog collections of the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. and the DC Public Library’s Washingtoniana Division, as well as more recent digital projects, this workshop will offer tips on how to organize your digital photography files; identify best practices for digital storage; and highlight resources that can help digitize your analog photographs, such as the DCPL Memory Lab. In addition, the workshop will offer strategies for compiling the documentation necessary to make your contemporary photography work a possible resource for your descendants, future historians, and repositories such as the Historical Society and the Washingtoniana Division.

This workshop is presented at the museum by the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. and relates to the exhibition For the Record: New Photography and Art Capture Changing Washington. Fee: $20/museum members and GW students, faculty, and staff; $30/public. Advance registration is required; space is limited. Register online.
