Lecture and Reception: The Peacock Standards of Legendary Thai Silk

Presented by the Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Embassy of Thailand

11 AM: Lecture

Sirikit, Queen Mother of Thailand, established a strict quality control program for Thai silk. The program protects the health, safety, and well-being of the people making the silk, while also setting high standards of quality for the fabric produced. The peacock emblem is used to authenticate Thai silk products meeting these standards. Siriporn Boonchoo, director general of the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture, will discuss the different standards of Thai silk—Green Peacock, Blue Peacock, Silver Peacock, and Golden Peacock—and their impact on the production and marketing of Thai silk.

12 PM: Reception

Enjoy some tastes of Thai cuisine and view samples of textiles graded with the various Peacock standards.

This program is presented by the Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Embassy of Thailand. Free, but reservations are required. RSVP to [email protected] by Friday, May 24.
