Lecture: How to Make Money by Cutting up Money

Mark Wagner, artist

Mark Wagner, best known for his collages made entirely from deconstructed U.S. dollars, destroys thousands of bills yearly to create works which pointedly and playfully explore the intersection of wealth, power, value, and American identity. In this talk, Wagner will present a large selection of his own artwork, describe the process behind its making, and chart its development from happy accident to unshakable commitment. Along the way he will wax philosophic about the nature of art and money, read some poetry, debunk the central premise of all modern economics, and undermine the whole of the global economic system.
