Lecture: Contemporary Rug Designs by Howard Hodgkin and Other Artists

John Lee, partner, BravinLee Programs; Sumru Belger Krody, Senior Curator, The Textile Museum Collections

Join us for a “field trip” to the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. We will discuss artist-designed rugs, focusing on a rug by the internationally renowned contemporary artist Howard Hodgkin, on view in the exhibition Howard Hodgkin in Venice. Sumru Belger Krody, senior curator of The Textile Museum's collections, will compare the rug to the traditional carpets made in Mirzapour, India. John Lee, partner at BravinLee Programs, will speak about their collaborating with fine artists such as Deborah Kass, Philip Taaffe, Christopher Wool, and others, and discuss current rugs on display and a rug sample “in process” by Charline von Heyl.

A collaboration with the Luther Brady Gallery at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design.

This program is part of the museum's weekly Textiles at Twelve series, which explores textile arts and global cultures through films, lectures, gallery talks, and more. Free; no reservations required.
