Films and Discussion: Fiber Films of "Textiles 101"

Students and alumni, New Media Photojournalism program, Corcoran School of the Arts & Design

Three groups of students and recent graduates from the MA program in New Media and Photojournalism at GW’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design launched our Textiles 101 film project in summer 2017 with three documentaries on common textile fibers: cotton, silk and wool. These three films are featured in the museum’s new learning center Textiles 101, opening January 27, 2018.

The project took them to Maryland’s Sheep and Wool festival, a cotton farm in North Carolina, and all the way to India. Join us for a screening of the films and a discussion with the filmmakers.

This program is part of the museum's weekly Textiles at Twelve series, which explores the textile arts and global cultures through films, lectures, gallery talks, and more. Free, no reservations required.
