Lecture: Body, Ritual, and Cosmology on Daoist Robes

Xiaofei Kang, associate professor, GW Department of Religion

Dragons, phoenixes, and other creatures are skillfully embroidered into a cosmological map on a Daoist’s priest’s robe displayed in the museum’s lower-level galleries. GW Associate Professor Xiaofei Kang will explore the Daoist body, practices, and cosmology through careful examination of the motifs in this elaborate example.

This program is part of the museum's weekly Textiles at Twelve series, which explores textile arts and global cultures through films, lectures, gallery talks, and more. Free, no reservations required.
