POSTPONED: Social Hour: Arts and Drafts - Women's History Month

Due to anticipated inclement weather, this program has been postponed to Wednesday, March 28.

For Women’s History Month, we are celebrating the women artists whose work is in our galleries. Join us for a night of craft-making and community-building inspired by embroidered garments made by women from Southwest China. As you embroider a small patch (no experience necessary), sip on beer from Denizens Brewery, the only woman and minority owned and operated brewery in Maryland. Enjoy pop-up talks in the exhibition Vanishing Traditions: Textiles and Treasures from Southwest China that explore how women used embroidery to record stories, and how that tradition is endangered by modernization.

In the spirit of supporting women, we are also partnering with the District Alliance for Safe Housing and GW's Feminist Student Union for a toiletry drive. Preferred donations include: deodorant, toothpaste, tampons, and body wash.

This program is a collaboration with the Women's Caucus for Art of Greater Washington and GW's Feminist Student Union. Fee: $10/museum members and GW students, faculty, and staff; $15/public (includes snacks, two drinks, and craft supplies). Must be 21 or older and present a valid ID to drink alcohol. Register online.
