Art Museum Day

Join us on Thursday, May 18, for Art Museum Day 2017, a celebration of museums around the world, organized by the Association of Art Museum Directors in concert with the International Council of Museums's International Museum Day. We will open our doors free of charge and offer the following special activities:

12 PM: Watch a screening of The True Cost, a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the impact the fashion industry has on our world.

5 PM: Join Curator of Contemporary Art Camille Ann Brewer for a free tour of the exhibition Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair, which tells the story of the iconic fashion show and its creator Eunice Johnson through stunning gowns, feathered coats, and statement pieces by leading designers.

6 PM: Meet Shayla Simpson, former Ebony Fashion Fair model, commentator, and buyer, and hear about her experiences working and traveling with Eunice Johnson to couture design houses in Europe to purchase fashions for the fair. Advance registration is required. Learn more and register.

All day: Interact with objects from our education collection, including fibers, natural dye stuffs, and garments from around the world.
