5:30 PM: Reception
6 PM: Lecture

In this illustrated lecture, Denny will expand on ideas from his introductory chapter to the Nomad’s Art exhibition catalogue, discussing both the problems and payoffs for the study of Anatolian tapestry-woven carpets from an art historian’s perspective. The lack of substantial documentary or chronological evidence notwithstanding, kilims have a lot to tell us about the culturally embedded weaving traditions of nomadic and sedentary peoples in Anatolia—and the ways that art metamorphoses over time.
